American Samoa Flag Day Celebration
FestivalThe territory's largest annual celebration, marking the 1900 raising of the US flag on Tutuila. A flag-raising ceremony with brass band, lavalava-clad school marchers and a traditional 'ava ceremony opens a multi-day programme of fautasi longboat races, village fiafia, siva afi and choral competition. A trade fair with food and handicraft stalls runs around Utulei near Pago Pago, alongside tatau, siapo and carving demonstrations.
Coastweeks
FestivalTerritory-wide coastal awareness celebration run by the American Samoa Coastal Management Program at the Department of Commerce. Roughly two weeks of paddling challenges, eco-tours of protected wetlands, an island-wide clean-up, co-ed cricket and other sports tournaments, natural-resource workshops and an eco-golf challenge. Closes with a family fun day carrying food vendors, game booths, water slides and entertainment; the finale venue has moved between Su'iga'ula Beach Park in Utulei and Lions Park in Nu'uuli. Kicks off the year-round PALS (People, Air, Land and Sea) programme running monthly through December.
Fagatogo Market
FarmersThe territory's only public market, operated by the Department of Agriculture's Public Market Division at Fagatogo square. Farmers and fishermen from the Eastern and Central districts sell produce and the day's catch daily, including Saturdays. Souvenir, craft and clothing stalls expand sharply when cruise ships are in port, and a fish market and cooked-food stands run at the rear. Sits opposite the High Court and in front of the main bus terminal.
Manu'a Cession Day Celebration
FestivalWeek-long Manu'a Islands commemoration of the 1904 Deed of Cession, run by a Manu'a organising committee across Ta'u, Ofu, Olosega and Fitiuta under shared recruitment. The official programme opens with an 'ava ceremony and flag raising at Avaloa Malaetele, followed by church services and fa'afiafiaga performances. Across the islands the week carries cricket and volleyball tournaments, BBQ, live DJ sets and agricultural farm fairs. This entry represents the series; Ta'u is the central stop.
Moso'oi Festival of Arts and Humanities
FestivalMonth-long arts and culture festival presented by the Agency for Better Living Endeavors (A.B.L.E.), centred on Su'igaula o le Atuvasa Park. The premiere carries a swap meet, craft workshops in weaving, elei printing and palefuiono making, and food stalls. The wider programme adds fashion shows, dance competitions, open mic nights and the Miss Moso'oi scholarship pageant, plus demonstrations of traditional arts and tatau. Named for the moso'oi flower, whose bloom season opens the palolo run.
Tisa's Tattoo Festival
FestivalTraditional-arts festival at Tisa's Barefoot Bar in Alega village, founded in 1993 by Tisa Faamuli to revive the Samoan tatau and now in its third decade. Visiting tufuga work with handmade tapping tools across the run, alongside siapo, stone-tool and sustainable-arts demonstrations, live music, kava service and a closing Sunday toana'i feast. Participants seeking a tatau must be 15 or older and free of specified health conditions.
